How Captions Will Improve Your Conference or Event

  1. Captions will make your event more practical for all attendees.  How many times have you been at an event and you’ve missed a word or two of what was said and have spent the next few minutes trying to catch up or just missed the point completely?  With captions you can just look at the screen and pick up what you’ve missed.
  2. Captions facilitate better notetaking.  They not only provide an opportunity to catch something you may have missed that you want to write down but also, and more importantly, provide a direct quote so your notetaking can be more accurate.
  3. Captions add a bit of bling and pizzazz.  Captions are a complement to the spoken word.  People are often amazed when they see captions at an event or conference.  It just adds a bit of excitement to the room and takes the conference to the next level.
  4. Captions make your event or conference more accessible.  It would be great if more conferences and events were captioned so that those who are deaf and hearing-impaired don’t have to ask for it.  It’s just there for everyone to use and those with hearing problems can attend without having to ask for captioning to be provided, allowing them to register and attend in the same way as all attendees without having to draw attention to themselves.  But it’s not just the deaf and hearing-impaired that would appreciate captions, there are those with auditory processing disorders, the elderly, those with Asperger’s, those with English as a second language, those who understand written English better than oral and many more.  Hey, sometimes we all just need a little help!
  5. Captions give your conference or event more reach.  Captions assist users to understand more clearly and leave less chance of misinterpretation.  And due to the increased accessibility you can reach more of your target audience.
  6. Presenters/speakers are unpredictable.  Not all Presenters are accomplished public speakers.  No matter the amount of expertise a presenter has on any given topic, what happens when a presenter gets on stage is unpredictable and cannot be controlled.   Perhaps your presenter has an accent?  Perhaps they speak so fast it is difficult to understand?  Maybe they get a case of nerves and stumble along?  Giving the audience the chance to read what was said will make it easier for the audience to understand.  Yes, these things add a layer of difficulty for the captioner too but the captioner is focussed on the speaker and won’t just tune out and switch off.
  7. Poor Venue Acoustics.  If the acoustics at the venue are poor, captions will assist attendees to be able to access the presentations fully.  On most occasions the captioner receives and accesses the audio via a direct feed from the presenter’s microphone meaning we get the best audio available at the event.
  8. Why not?  With all these reasons to caption your events, there is no good reason not to.  You may be thinking cost is a drawback but the cost is only minimal when you consider all the benefits.  The costs could well be less than you think.  Contact us today for a copy of our rates and let’s start working together.  www.captionslive.com.au or captionslive@outlook.com.
